Food Pyramids

In class, we have been studying the digestive system and the importance of healthy eating. Here are a few shots of our creative food pyramids:

Tomorrow, in art, we will become chefs and create our own picture menu for our very own heath food restaurant. More pictures to come!

Evens/Odds Song

On Wednesday, our class made up our very own even and odd numbers song to help us remember which numbers were even and which were odd. Here's a video that Lian sent in of her performing our class Evens/Odds Song:

Thanks for sending that in, Lian!

Special Visitor

Last week we had a special visitor come and read to us on Friday. Matthew F., a former student in Ms. Dumas's class, used his PBS [Positive Behavior Support] Pelican Bills to earn a reward to come and read a book to our class. Here are some shots of Matthew reading to our class:

Thanks again, Matthew, for using your hard earned bills to share your reading skills with us! We hope you can come and visit again soon!

Sentence, Fragment, or Run On?

Last week in language we learned the difference between fragments, run ons, and sentences. On Wednesday, we got in groups to form our own definitions of each of those terms and we created our very own examples on sentence strips. Here are some pictures of the awesome teamwork we displayed during this activity:

Great job, guys!

Acrostics

Two weeks ago, the word of the week was "describe." We practiced describing ourselves through these acrostic poems that we made in art class:

Superhero Pelicans

This year, our class theme is "Superheroes." On the first day of school, we listed different characteristics of superheroes. Here are some ideas that we came up with. Superheroes:
-always do the right thing even when no one is looking
-make the world a better place
-help people in need
-are responsible and safe
-know that people are different, but respect them anyway

We decided that as a class, we were going to be the Superhero Pelicans of the school. We have been practicing our manners in class and in the lunchroom in order to show respect to everyone. We have also been working on being great leaders by taking responsibility as new third graders. Stay tuned for more Superhero Pelican stories!
